Learn More About Sleep Apnea & How We Help

Everything you need to know — from diagnosis to treatment.

Our Mission

At One Dental Sleep, we believe everyone deserves a good night's sleep. We connect patients across Central Florida who struggle with sleep apnea or CPAP intolerance to a growing network of dental sleep medicine specialists — each trained in custom oral appliance therapy to open the airway, restore quality sleep, and deliver care that is comfortable, personalized, and built around the patient.

What is Sleep Apnea?

Sleep apnea is a common but serious condition where breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep. The most common type, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), occurs when the throat muscles relax and block the airway. Left untreated, sleep apnea is linked to high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and chronic fatigue.

Common Signs & Symptoms

  • Loud snoring
  • Gasping or choking during sleep
  • Waking up with a dry mouth or headache
  • Excessive daytime sleepiness
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Irritability or mood changes

How is it Diagnosed?

Sleep apnea is diagnosed through a sleep study, either conducted in a sleep lab or at home using a home sleep test (HST). Your physician or sleep specialist will review the results and determine the severity of your condition using the Apnea-Hypopnea Index (AHI). A dental sleep medicine provider works closely with your physician as part of your care team.

Treatment Options

CPAP Therapy

The most commonly prescribed treatment, CPAP delivers continuous air pressure through a mask to keep the airway open. Highly effective, but some patients find it uncomfortable or difficult to use long term.

Oral Appliance Therapy

A custom-fit device worn during sleep that gently repositions the jaw and tongue to keep the airway open. Comfortable, quiet, portable, and an excellent option for patients with mild to moderate OSA or CPAP intolerance.

Combination Therapy

Some patients benefit from using both CPAP and an oral appliance together, improving comfort and effectiveness.

What to Expect at One Dental Sleep

Your first visit includes a thorough evaluation of your airway, bite, and jaw. If you are a candidate for oral appliance therapy, we will take precise measurements and custom-fit your device. Follow-up visits ensure your appliance is working effectively and comfortably. We communicate directly with your referring physician throughout your care.
